KMart, Broadway. Being out of stock when you are a retailer is a cardinal sin. Even resorting to desperate measures doesn't cover it up. Solution: put up a sign that apologizes and says when you intend to be back in stock - at least a bit more customer friendly.
Ride the Metro this week in Paris and you might get off the train to an odd sight: No, it's not the ol' dorm-room-recreated-on-the-lawn college prank, it's an ad. Ikea set up their furniture collections in a few busy stations (St. Lazare, Champs Elysées Clémenceau, Concorde, and Opéra), supplementing those rock-hard, gum-stained waiting benches with comfy and pristine (for now) Ektorp and Kalstad couches and Brasa floor lamps. Wittner, Broadway. Their new format store is a certainly an improvement on the old look. It is very directional and stylish without looking too upmarket. I do wonder about the practicality of a totally tiled shopfloor in a shoe shop, though. Life could be tough for shop assistants and customers alike.
Birkenhead Pt Outlet Centre. It was great to see the refurbished and extended outlet centre - unfortunately there are many empty shops - sign of the times and a glut of retail space ? Anyone visited recently ?
Union Square, Pyrmont. A colourful start to the Pyrmont Shop Local campaign with selling local art - I especially enjoyed the standard size approach - very customer friendly.
Jeweller, East Gardens. This unusual image (for a mid-range jeweller) caught my eye - the photo does not do it justice. I wonder why other jewellers (and watch brands) have not used evocative imagery like this ? Kudos to Seiko - now let's see what they follow it up with....
JayJays, East Gardens. Nice concept - Greatest Denim Fits - except it probably 'fits' in sister brand Just Jeans' territory. JayJays is all about price/value for a younger customer. Sibling rivalry ? Probably off-brand too.
Coles, Waterloo. Not good when your local supermarket is out of stock of the most popular pack size of WeetBix in an area surrounded by apartment dwellers (and who don't want the largest pack size).
