Buy Two Get One Free

JB Hi-Fi, East Gardens.  Having previously mentioned how difficult it is to get into some JB Hi-Fi stores, I thought I would share this deal.

It is a classic retailer ploy to upsell the customer, which is any tactic designed to get a shopper to spend more than they would have, thus increasing the average sale or the number of items per basket. I think for the category it is a very strong deal, unlikely to be matched by competitors. So, it does seem to pay to get past the entrance and into the store.

SOUNDS GOOD, LOOKS GOOD

Title, Willoughby Rd, Crows Nest, Sydney. A branch of one of my favourite stores, selling mainly arthouse music and movies. I like the clean lines and simplicity of this store, making for an easy and relaxed, 'discovery' type shopping experience. Worth a visit, take money.

SANITY LOST ?

Good location in Sunshine Plaza, but hampered by poor presentation. Not surprising no customers  despite busy mall Thurs lunchtime.  Watch the 2 min video below - not a single person enters the store.  While there are obvious issues with demand and competition in the music and dvd categories, the storefront is not exactly enticing.

TITLE BY NAME AND CONTENT

One of my favourite specialty shops is Title in Crown St, Surry Hills.  They provide an interesting arthouse blend of mainly music and movie content in a low-key environment.  The owners are importers and distributors into Australia of some specialised product which means the range on offer is always top-notch, although prices are usually premium.  Have a look at the review video - this shop is not for everyone, as the overwhelming range and the often low service levels mean that you have to know what you want, and be prepared to look for it.  The exploration can be hugely rewarding, and is a pleasant contrast with the commoditised way content is sold in 'mainstream' music stores.
