Dreams

Pandora, Bondi Junction.  The dreamy quality of the lighting and the behind counter graphic have added another dimension to this otherwise functional, but stylish store.

Lucky For Some

Michael Hill Jeweller, East Gardens.  Note the blackboard sign: "It's your lucky day - ask for the manager's price".  So does this mean that if you didn't happen to see the sign, you would end up paying more ?  Why would you do this to your customers ? Why wouldn't you simply say - Managers' Special Pricing in-store ?  It just makes you feel like you could be ripped off even before going into the store.  Lucky for some, unlucky for others.  Perhaps a case of a retailer being too clever for their own good ?

Redundant Pre-Xmas Sale

Zarussi jewellery kiosk, East Gardens.  There is something redundant in this name.  I guess we will be seeing a lot more of this before Christmas.

More tacky jewellers

Prouds, Warringah.  By request from readers, this one is arguably 'worse' than some previously shown.

Another Tacky Jewellery Sale

Zamels Jewellers, Broadway.  Not the best-looking jewellery sale I've seen.

Beige is boring - yawn!

Michael Hill Jeweller, Warringah.  Many jewellers in the mainstream market have very tacky storefronts.  Some have an over-preponderance of black - not a colour you associate with joy or celebration.  So, it is sometimes a tricky task to balance all the cues.  This MH Jeweller store seems to have gone too far the other way - the colours are so bland they say nothing about the brand - except maybe it's 'beige'.  I have no doubt the store is operationally efficient - they are savvy operators.  Maybe they are selling finance ....Hopefully the customers aren't beige as well.

Black is not so Brilliant

Brilliant jewellers, Chatswood Westfield. Ok, I accept this critique could be a bit harsh, but here goes. Why do so many jewellers insist on using black as a dominant colour ? I know it probably shows off the diamonds a bit better, but there are so many other dark background colours that could do that - even in an assortment of colour. The black absorbs light, so it makes these stores look grey and dull. The grey carpet here does not help either. Black is an upmarket colour, but probably only in fashion and design - and many mainstream (mall) jewellers do not fit that description. The black colour is recessive, just way too easy to walk past in the mall - they are probably doing themselves a disservice - not so Brilliant - although that's a catchy 'product feature' name. Buying jewellery should a joyful experience ??

The Shocking Truth

Prouds Jewellers, Chatswood Westfield. When Prouds have no pride - shocking POS and 'sale' presentation. This is not conducive to building any brand equity.

How Not to Make Fathers Day sales

Pola Jewellers, Greenwood Plaza. Quite frankly, this amazes me. At a time, the day before Fathers' Day, when the rest of the mall is open - with exception of the banks etc, and with a special Father's Day offer, they decided to close. As at 2.25pm there was no sign of life. Little wonder that some retailers complain about making sales in the current environment. (PS - the mall was reasonably busy too).

SIGN OF THE TIMES

POS display Georg Jensen, QVB. Luxury takes a markdown. Can the brand recover from this ?
