The Chocolate Pharmacy ?

Priceline,  World Square.  Hugely crowded entrance to this Priceline store makes it look more like chocolate shop than pharmacy.  A cynic might say, sell them chocolate now and weight loss products later :()

Chemist Steps out in Colour (guest post)

GUEST POST from Bryce Roney

Terry White pharmacy, Devonport TAS.

I took this picture at my local Terry White chemist.  I thought the use of colour blocking with the deep red packaging worked well but for me there was something a little odd about the bags placed around the table. Looking at the other visual merchandising in the store, they've done a really good job of creating displays that draw customers in - something not normally seen at a chemist.

Comment from The Shoppologist:

I agree with your comments - the way the bags have been hung do detract from the overall impact.  They might have done better to have a single bag on a stand with a small poster, as this seems to be part of the promotional deal.

Overall, as you correctly point out, this is not something you see very often at pharmacies, so they deserve credit for the attempt. The colour blocking is good, though.  Maybe we'll give them  7/10 :)

Faceless

Harrisons Pharmacy, Broadway.  This either suggests out of stocks (OOS) - or the display unit is too large. Probably a vendor replenishment issue.  Either way,  not ideal.  (The product is face masks by the way).  Previously featured, this is what it should look like: link here

Tacky promotion undermines good cause

YouSave pharmacy, Warringah.  Now hear this: the McGrath Foundation does great work.  My question is whether the execution of this appeal and promotion was well considered.  Somehow I can't reconcile the orange and blue of YouSave with the pink ribbons and crinkle paper, and then Blackmore's own brand colours.  Not to mention the blue skin suit.....  I am not sure the parties have done themselves any favours with this. It just looks tacky. A case of more is less ?

Facemasks Unmasked

Harrison pharmacy, Broadway.  Elegant, simple, colourful merchandising for this product.  It would work well in most lighting conditions. Colour sells - although I am fully stocked with natural masks myself.

Drugs anyone ?

Amcal Pharmacy, Metropolitan centre. An example of very poor in-store POS signage. There is just way too much small-font text here, and no 'impact' image. Just way too hard for someone to read and instantly 'get it'. Probably a 'quantum' waste of money.

Sox and Toiletries Bags

Pulse Pharmacy, Warringah.  A good looking store, I quite like the choice of colours (lime and blue) for the brand identity.  However, while the store is laid out in a tidy fashion (as it needs to be in a pharmacy), this good work is potentially undone by the stands at the front, blocking the entrance to the store.  The logic escapes me - unless it is for 'impulse' - but who buys a toiletries bag or socks on impulse ?

The fronts of stores should be welcoming. Period.

BRIGHT BREAKTHROUGH COUGH

Carousel Pharmacy, Bondi Junction. An unusually good window from a pharmacy.  Nice warm, friendly colours enables them to stand out from two competing pharmacies in the centre.

OUTSTANDING PHARMACY

Roy Young Pharmacy, Chatswood, Westfield.  Very impressive disciplines in layout, planograms and merchandising, signage and customer service.  Note especially how pricing is well-signed, a must for recessionary times, and older customers.  A minor criticism is the overuse of the 'save' wallpaper hanging from the ceiling, but arguably necessary in these times.  Worth a visit.
