CAUGHT SHORT

Betts shoe store, Queen St Mall, Brisbane on a Friday evening.  This strip is one of the highest rental locations in the world, the place pumps every Friday evening.  It sits atop and adjacent to two important commuter hubs, and contains all the icons of Australian retail.

This video was filmed inside the store, which had a half-price offer on selected styles - quite a wide range of merchandise to choose from.  The snag ?  There were only two front of house staff, who were needless to say, totally overrun.

In fairness, they were using headsets for communication with the stockroom upstairs - stock despatched down a chute.  However, they were clearly totally under-staffed.  All very well to have an attractive offer that meets the recessionary market conditions, but they must have totally under-capitalised on the customer demand, and I saw a number of customers walking away in frustration.
